Seize the Antenna: JSA v Aleph

I feel better about this game than I did with my previous ones. Although I made some mistakes in the game I did better than I had before. I made a huge mistake in my second turn and it cost me dearly, but I was able to end on a tie, but a loss to victory points. The scenario was Seize the Antenna and it was a blast. Pete was my opponent today and he is a worthy foe.2017-03-16 18.36.58

Deployment

Deployment was fairly standard except that Pete landed all 0f the Netrods in fantastic locations. One of them failed the PH roll, but dispersed deep into his own corner of the table.

Round 1

I lost the LT wip off and got to choose turn order. I chose to go first because the layout of the table had decent cover and I wanted to get into a good position on the table.

My first order was a coordinated order with my Butai LT, my Lu Duan and the Tokeisotsu Engineer. The order was move, capture antenna and I passed in one turn. At this point I lost one of my Holo markers for the Lu Duan. I then moved my Keisotsu up the left hand side of the table. And spent my last two orders running my Tokeisotsu towards the enemy HVT which was near my Keisotsu link.

I moved my Lu duan up into a better position, the Dakini with HMG was able to shoot at the correct one so I shot back, but neither hit connected.

Pete moved toward the mid objective with the Lamedh Rebot and dropped a sniffer on the ground. As he assumed wisely I had placed my Ninja hacker near the objective in a hidden state. His next order was to use the ability Sensor and my Ninja was found very easily.

Deva LT moved up and shot the Lu Duan. I decided to heavy flame throw, but the Deva passed his armor save with a 20 and my Lu duan was demolished by the three combi rifle shots.  Two fails, but him into unconscious lvl 2.Stupid dice.

The Proxy Mk 5 approached and shot at my Ninja who was now standing in the open. She passed her armor save and I decided to fail the wip and move into cover. I made a rule mistake here I think and claimed kinematika and thought I could make an extra inch of move, but I did not dodge so I do not believe I would have been able to use kinematika. My ninja was eventually killed, but three orders were spent accomplishing it. Actually five if I add in the sensor and the sniffer. With his last orders he attempted to grab the antenna in his zone, but failed twice.

Round 2

At the begining of round two I moved my Tokeisotsu into contact with the HVT and accomplished my classified objective in two orders. Retroengineer was a solid choice with a +3 WIP roll on a model with 13 WIP. and this side of the table was fairly clear.

I moved my Domaru up closer to the mid and threw an E/M grenade at the Lamed hRebot. Pete failed the BTS save and he was isolated and Immobilized LVL 2. E/M is awesome. I did not manage to take out the Netrod around the corner though. After that I moved the Domaru deeper into the Aleph side of the table.

I moved my fireteam up and around the table, in an attempt to watch his side of the table from a lateral position, but I was blocked off by a well positioned Proxy MK5. My Keisotsu HMG shot, but missed all dice on a needed seven to hit and he landed a nanopulser on me. I failed my BTS save and died. This broke the link and my troop was stranded in a bad position. I did not have the orders left in my turn to make up for this and all of my Keisotsu were left horrible positions.

On Pete’s turn he methodically picked off each of my Keisotsu with the Sophotech. It was a slaughter. His one troop killed one after another of my poor little Keisotsu. He then revealed his Proxy Mk 2 and performed the Coup De Gras snagging his classified objective. With the last order in his pool, the Proxy Mk 2 took the middle console.

Round 3

Adding up my points I am clearly in retreat with only two models left alive on the table. Domaru LT and my Tokeisotsu were the only two standing. I’m was in retreat and the rules of the scenario state that if one players starts his turn in retreat then the game is over at the end of said turn. I still had two command tokens so I spent them on changing my orders over to regular ones. At this point the game was over, but I wanted to kill more of his troops and narrow my margin of loss.

I spent one order on my Domaru to chain rifle a Netrod and Dakini, but the Dakini passed the armor save. Both AROs against my Domaru missed. At this point I could see his Deva LT with my Domaru LT. I knew that it was his LT because he had used the LT order on him during round 2. I declared the Assault skill and ran the 8 inches over to him. The Deva shot causing one wound. On my last order I declared berzerk his response was to ARO dodge out of being engaged, but since Berzerk makes the CC skill not a face to face roll it becomes an Auto hit for the Domaru and anything above an eleven is a crit. The Deva failed the armor save and Died.

At this point the game ended

JSA 4 – Aleph 4

I held the antenna in my deployment and Pete held the middle antenna and we both accomplished our classified objectives. Pete wont the game by the victory points remaining on the table. It was a very good match.

Recap

We tied 4 to 4, but Pete won on victory points because he demolished my troops. I made a grave mistake leaving my Keisotsu so far in the open. Pete accidentally killed me too well and took away his own last turn where he could have walked right through me.

This was a very fun match and I learned a few things. Assault and Berserk cannot be used in the same turn. Rules were checked and the answers were found. Berserk works the same way. You cannot use Martial Arts skills at the same time as either of the abilities. The more you know the better you can play.

I also learned that if a model accidentally leaves a link because the integrity to the leader breaks it can be reformed without expending a command token in the next order.
